Massive Dynamic and ZFT relationship:

ZFT came first, developed out of Bishop and Bell's research/experimentation/insanity. ZFT started out as a counter-culture movement and developed to be more and more destructive and anarchistic. The ethics chapter from the prime universe that was supposed to temper things and protect the subjects was never even written in the Ways and Means universe. Bell realized that many of the things they were developing were profitable and also knew that he needed a steady cash flow to continue his research when the government cut him off for being to unstable and established the biomedical company that would become Massive Dynamic. ZFT is aware of the other universes and is attempting to steal with it can from them and then destroy them so they aren't a threat to it. They are also attempting to undermine the government because the less stable things are the more power the organization has. Also, undermining the government is fun.

Walter wasn't killed by ZFT although they weren't really all that upset by it. Walter was the voice of reason in the organization, to a certain extent, and without him questioning thing they're free to be far more vicious. Bell and Nina run things, with Bell being primarily responsible for the ZFT side and Nina the MD side although both are well aware of what the other is doing. Nina is, at the time of Dark Matter, starting to question Bell's sanity and question the organization as a whole. What happens to Nick, and by extension Peter and Olive, goes a long way to fraying her loyalty to ZFT and to Bell.

Walter was killed by a rival group that split off from ZFT and is headed by David Robert Jones. Jones was not happy by the cooperate direction the organization took with the founding of MD and left to pursue a more subversive tack. Bell dismissed him as insignificant and that enraged Jones who is now out to destroy Bell and his organization. Jones' men were not actually after Walter, although his death was a nice bonus. They wanted Peter as a means of controlling Nick and Olive who they felt would be strong weapons against Bell.

Plans and whatnot:

Once Peter, Nick and Olive decide they've had enough they start gathering intel on the organization. Olive wants to just go apeshit and strike immediately. Peter would rather not get killed and pushes for long-term planning. Nick throws in with Peter on this one and Olive follows. They start gathering allies including other recruits, like Susan and Nancy, and people who have noticed the organization's activities like Charlie and Broyles.

The Fringe division in Ways and Means was kick-started after Charlie was investigating his partner's death during what was supposed to be a simple raid on a drug ring. He turned up oddities in the background of the case and in the course of poking around wound up in a ZFT site that was attempting to cross universes. Much hand waving ensues because I don't really know why this would happen but Charlie winds up with a copy of his partner from the other universe and this is of course John Scott. A John Scott who knows Olivia Dunham. Broyles is all "oh, wtf?" and puts together a team consisting of Charlie, John and Amy Jessup. They put together a few pieces and start tracking the Pattern events and trying to pin down what ZFT is and also trying to find Olivia because John knows she's involved somehow.

Peter, Nick and Olive are still more or less following orders although they are strategically failing certain assignments, passing along bad information to their superiors and tipping off the FBI to other soldiers' assignments. They notice the Fringe team and think they could be useful but they don't trust them, especially since they know John Scott should be dead. They start feeding the Fringe team more information to see what happens.

What this means:

I don't even know. That is a hell of a lot of plotty shit and I'm not really sure how I got to this point and would sort of like my brain to go back to just coming up with ideas for porn.

I think I need to start writing things in order, but first I need to go back and cover what happened to Peter after he was cut off and how he was brought back to ZFT. Then I can start at the end of Dark Matter and move forward with the alternate Fringe team investigating things and our threesome plotting the downfall of ZFT.

This morning on Write, damn you:

Chapter four is done! I have not re-read it and since it's writing was fueled by hard cider and bourbon I'm not really sure I want to re-read it but it is done.

There are three sections of chapter five that aren't finished, essentially the end of the story. They are more or less outlined and have bits and pieces written. I just need to fill in the blanks and figure out how the thing actually ends. I'm sort of thinking there's an epilogue that mirrors the prologue and is something from when they were little but I'm not sure. There's also a section of porn that's been cut because it's a separate story and will keep this one's rating at R rather than wandering into NC17 territory.

In other news, I ramble frequently about Scrivener. I think it's a fantastic writing program, I love that it's a highly polished program developed by a small company (small as in one developer, one sales manager), and I love that they love writers. They've got a special deal going on for NaNo, so I'd encourage you to check it out. The only drawback to the program is that there isn't a Windows version, it's Mac only.
<lj:music>Man On The Moon - Sugar</lj:music>

Typed up all the random squiggles that were on the printout of the big bang story over my lunch break today and it's reached 21,000 words.

The prologue and chapters one and two are essentially done. Chapter three is probably mostly done although it is still scribbled over handouts from a meeting this afternoon and still needs to be deciphered. (Why is my hand writing so goddamn illegible?) Chapter four is mostly missing. Chapter five is missing but at least I know what happens in it.

Theoretically the thing needs to go to the artist at the beginning of November but my artist seems to be MIA, so I'll just keep writing until it's finished or until my posting date is looming terrifyingly close. I'm an idiot, so my posting date is December 1st. It is going to sorely need beta reading sometime in mid-November, let's say. *makes puppydog eyes at chichuri * I have my doubts as to whether it makes sense, is at all interesting, is in fact in English, and is not so out of character that it is painful.

So, things to do: Write, damn you. Figure out what the fuck happens in chapter four. Finish both sex scenes. (I somehow cannot write smut anymore. I set everything up and then they just stand around looking at each other until one of them gets bored and wanders off to do laundry or something. Hot laundry action!) Come up with a clever name for the drug they're testing. Barring clever, come up with something for a name for the drug they're testing.

(An aside: I just noticed, after staring at it for like three years, that the little tapestry from India that's hanging in front of my desk has peacocks having sex on it. Hot peacock action!)
